‘To lose one set of twins may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness.’ The unlucky Aegeon is searching for his lost sons, despite Ephesus being forbidden to him on pain of death. Unbeknown to Aegeon (and, indeed, the missing twins, their twin slaves, one wife and various acquaintances) both sets of twins are about to be reunited, but not without commotion and confusion when multiple cases of mistaken identity lead to misunderstandings and mayhem.
